We are now licensed to foster children ....

So, that means I will be very busy with less time for blogging and Facebook, I'm sure. *pouts*
DFS called yesterday to tell us to start expecting calls.

Las Vegas needs over 450 families to help w/ kids that are in Child Haven. That was pulling at Mike's good heart ... and as Mike said, the Bible says to care for orphans and widows. :-)

For now, we are licensed to care for one 0 to 3 yr old... I think we want only newborns b/c they will have just come out of the NICU and won't be sick.

We need to be very careful that Matthew isn't exposed to any type of illnesses. A lot of times, these kids are not well cared for or healthy.

We are also licensed for mildly medically fragile kiddos, g~tube baby & breathing treatments, since we are well trained to do that. I hope I'm not too overwhelmed, but if it doesn't work out, we can change our status.

Most of me wanted a toddler for Matthew, but I am hearing that babies just out of the hospital might work best for us for now.

We'll see how it all goes. I am kind of nervous about it.

We had always planned to have two kids, but then when Matthew was born with this rotten heart defect, that sadly changed things. Also, I'm not a spring chicken and my eggs are old! LOL
I do feel bad about Matthew being an only kiddo... and I am his only playmate. Casey was an only child and it was sad for him, especially since I was a single mom most of his life.

I will still be posting pics of the cabin and little updates as I have time.

We made sure that the licensing people knew that we intend to go to Beaver every week to finish up the cabin.

I will be praying for you guys! We had several foster children at one time and adopted one little girl we loved very much - just protect Mathew, OK? we learned that the hard way.

Yes, we've heard some scary stories...
so we will be totally careful...

we originally would have done older kids, but the scary stories were tooooo scary and too risky w/ Matthew....

that's why the younger the child, the better...

one friend fostered a little 3 yrs old girl that brought home lice and hoof and mouth... so.. yeah, I would not be a happy camper if that ever happened....

YES YES YES...
we will be some serious screeners... and we only only only want healthy small kids...

I admire You for doing this, but I could not do it for I would fall in LOVE with them & could not stand to give them up but Jesus said in MATHHEW 19: 14
" Suffer LITTLE CHIDREN,AND FORBID THEM NOT,TO COME UNTO ME; FOR SUCH IS THE KINDOM OF HEAVEN"
Hug Magoo for me. meeting him is on My bucket list

Yes, well if it works out, we can adopt them.

Terri - I'm very interested to hear how your experiences go with this! How loving and generous of your family to open up your home!I have a 10 year old stepson and I am unable to have children of my own. We have thought about fostering a child. Reading some of these comments - I think I may stay away from my original plan to foster an older girl. Maybe one that is age 2-5. What do you think?

You and Mike are SPECIAL people. Stew and I had planned to foster children too, before Brylee and Griffin came into our lives.

We are doing this too. We are doing teens and older children. They are easier for us and our situation.

Just remember that it is okay to say no. I hear that they will give you whatever if you aren't careful.

Congrats to you and Mike. My husband (also named Mike) and I have two foster children, they are also my niece and nephew, and I dread the day that they go back to their birth mother (long story there). We were asked if we would adopt them and well with having four children of our own we know that we could not afford to do so. I just pray that their father comes home soon or that my parents will be able to take them in, the kids are small but they know who we all are and would probably love to live with their grandma and grandpa.
GOD Bless both of you for having such wonderful hearts.

I'm proud to know you guys! I really admire your willingness to do this. I hope to be able to help little ones someday too. It's so easy to sort of skip over those scriptures that tell us to do the hard things. We all have all kinds of excuses, thank goodness for people like you and Mike!
