Beaver Blog Cabin ~ Tuesday

Adding main roof & loft beam. We needed that crane for an entire day.

Placing the 1,960 pound, 60 foot beam across the house ~ it fits into a notch on the roof beam.

Easy she goes onto the perfect notch Tim made.

Ugh, I can't tell you how high these guys were. I believe the scaffolding was four high. They were adding the side roof beams.

Another beautiful Beaver sunset.

Looking more like a house.

This picture doesn't show it, but all the roof beams in the back are in place. The are now working on the beams in front of the kitchen.
I'll be back to post more later. We have a lot of unpacking to do. We had a great time in Beaver!
I want to thank my friend Queen of Mayhem for being my guest blogger ... she sure knows how to entertain ~ the big silly!!!! Thanks Queen!!

Busy Beaver Builder random "Spiderman" pics

Mikey, Tim's brother holding the ladder for my Mikey... and Tanji guiding the beam.

I believe they are 29 feet high.

Mikey on the ladder and Tim (in red) laying on his belly on the other beam!! Actually, after a second peek, Timmy is on the very top beam!

Tim and dad bracing the roof and loft beam.

"Spiderman" Tim. Yes, he scares the crap out of me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy Happy Mikey. He's in heaven up in Beaver, building our dream "family" cabin. My sister and parents are part of this cabin kit ~ we wanted it big enough for all of us to enjoy forever.

Tim again... being fearless.
Tanji... what a trooper girl ... she guided the beams as the crane moved them over the house.

Mikey and Tim.

My dad, Mikey (Tim's brother) and Tim.

My teddy bear pancake. Isn't it cute... I made the kiddies a couple turtles and a teddy bear...
it was supposed to be Mickey Mouse.. but ended up being a bear.

Beaver Blog Cabin ~ Saturday

View from my sister Kim's upstairs back bedroom.

Someday, that beautiful pine tree will have to come out *pouts* ... the garage will be behind it, attached to the mudroom.

Looks so pretty with that blue sky. Can you see my dog, Quixa? She's in Heaven up in Beaver.
Back of the cabin, and here they are working on my sister's bedroom dormer.

This is taken from down on the side of the hill we are on. You're looking at the dining room/living room area... there will be a covered deck all the way around.

Only a couple months ago!

What a blast from the past ....those "bad a&%" Busy Beaver Builders sure make good progress, huh!

My spoiled boy

Beaver Blog Cabin ~ Tuesday

Wednesday ~ 2' to 4' of snow last night. Lots of shoveling today. For those of you that don't remember, we didn't choose to build in the dead of winter. We were supposed to have done all this during the summer months. Due to a bunch of circumstances out of our control ... we're doing it now. In lots of ways, it works out best for our neighbors and Mike ~ once Mike gets promoted to Sergeant, it won't be as easy to take vacation time. So, freeze it is.

Aren't they cute? These are our adorable "busy beaver builders".

A view from our neighbor's house. It's so funny, we have a nice little path between cabins. Someday we're going to make a nice little walkway.

As I look at these beautiful pictures, with tears in my eyes .... I can't help but feel so lucky that this dream is coming true. I still have to pinch myself to be sure it's real.

This is the property that Mike and I purchased while we were on our honeymoon over six years ago (we spent one week looking for our perfect spot) .... where Mike (and my family) built that awesome steel building to store all our "stuff" in preparation for this time ... had electricity brought up and had a well drilled (with our other wonderful neighbors) ....where Mike had planted over 200 baby trees ...

This is the very same property that we were advised by an attorney to "sell and get rid of" .... because we had run out of health coverage for Matthew (at that time).
That was so crushing to us. This was our dream property that we planned to retire on. We knew that even if we had sold that property and everything else we owned that "wasn't protected" ... we still would not be able to pay that 1.3 million owed to Stanford or any of his ongoing medical bills. (Again, thank God for Mike's employer because they raised the lifetime cap.)

I thank God everyday for Matthew's health, Casey's health, our health ... for more health coverage ... for such a wonderful family that is helping us to build this "family cabin" and for such a wonderful husband, who is making this all possible. With God's help, too of course.

Sorry for the wee bit of a ramble... I am feeling a bit emotional over it.
We just love this property so much.. and that cute little town of Beaver with all of our sweet neighbors. We are so incredibly blessed.
We simply can't wait to get up there and hang out with our family and friends. Lot's of good BBQ's and holiday trips to come.

Beaver Blog Cabin

Burrr ... it's bitterly cold. Weather is lousy. This is the first side beam!!!
The mudroom to the left, open area will be the entry way, octagonal area is kitchen on first floor and the upstairs will be Matthew's room... or a guest room! It has such an awesome view.
It's a family event today... putting up the first beam. Those puppies are heavy!!!
Outside of the dining and living room area. The french doors will come off the dining room. As you can see, Timmy has it braced real good. Those winds are crazy windy. Like my husband said, "You can't even comprehend how big it is from the pictures". This is so fun. We need to keep our fingers crossed that the winds obey Father God!! At least til we get that main 60' beam up top!! One more week... one more week.... The beams arrived! They are buhhhhh uuuuu tiiiii fulllll!!
Look at my little magpie. Isn't he soooo freaking cute. His Auntie Kim bought him this preppy little outfit. He was not happy with me actually, he had wanted a squirt bottle to squirt Sunnie.

My little Marsupial

Matthew's Blog: Matthew Marsupial

Happy New Year ... and some words of thanks

When we count our many blessings, it isn't hard to see, that life's most valued treasures are the treasures that are free.

For it isn't what we own or buy that signifies our wealth.

It's the special gifts that have no price: our family, friends and health.

O God, when I have food, help me to remember the hungry;

when I have work, help me to remember the jobless;

when I have a home, help me to remember those who have no home at all;

when I am without pain, help me to remember those who suffer, and remembering, help me to destroy my complacency;

bestir my compassion, and be concerned enough to help;

by word and deed, those who cry out for what we take for granted.

Beaver Blog Cabin

Timmy sent this to us today. He has started the rows for the upstairs. That will be Matthew's window... he's got a great view of the mountains. Mike was teasing that maybe we'll just have Matthew take a room in the basement and we'll save that upstairs room for guests.

The rest of these were taken last weekend while my sister and I were up for a visit.

This will be the master bedroom w/ french doors.
Looking towards the family room and dining room and kitchen area.

The french doors off the dining room.

The back of the living room... there will be lots of big winders and a french door.

Look at that grin.

Here are the "bad ass log builders". I hear this is what they've been calling themselves. The big sillies. Tanji had a couple T~shirts made for the guys that says "bass ass log builders" on the back. Tanji is standing there, too.. but she's wearing overalls that match the color of the logs.
This is the front of the kitchen.
Matthew in his new little snowsuit, mittens and boots that grandma bought him.

Oy vey. The big lugs. This is Amy, Quixa's BFF.
A quick picture before we left. This is outside our dining room.

They sure have made a lot of progress. It's really looking like a cabin, huh! We went up at the end of October to stake out the site.

We're going back in a couple weeks so Mike can help to put up those main beams and trusses, to prepare for the roof.
I want to hurry and get that done, I guess it's been quite windy up there... I'd hate to see those walls blow down. They are braced, but it could happen.

Merry Christmas!
